Torrevieja is located on the Costa Blanca, or the "white coast". This is situated between two other well known areas of Costa Brava to the north, and Costa Del Sol to the south, and is within the region of Valencia with the warm Mediterranean on its shores.

This coast has been a favourite area for tourists for many years from all over Europe and Spain. The airports at Alicante and Murcia are flown into by most operators, including Monarch, BMI Baby, Easyjet, ThomsonFly, FlyBE and British Airways. The property can be easily reached from both of these airports within 1/2 hour. The motorway network connects France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and the rest of Europe. This coast, protected by the Crevilliente mountains to the west and with the warm Mediterranean sea on it's eastern shores gives the Costa Blanca a perfect winter climate. The south Costa Blanca is also famous throughout Spain for fresh seafood and fish, landed daily at the local ports of Torrevieja, Santa Pola and many others along the coast It is that popular that the Spanish from the mainland holiday in this town !!.

  The two salt lakes of Laguna de la Mata creates a wonderful micro climate producing superb winter weather. People visit these lakes to bath in them, which is said to have a healing effect on any ailment such as Arthritis. These lakes are also home to a host of wildlife including large flocks of Flamingos, especially Laguna de la Mata which is now a conservation area with many paths and tracks around the lake itself perfect for long walks. This lake is situated extremely closely to our property (within two minutes).

The local markets play a key part in everyday life in Spain, and there is generally a couple on everyday. We use the Sunday market at "Zoco" near Quesada which is excellent for fresh fruit and anything "English" you may be missing or Almoradi market on Saturday. This is a beautiful village, with a stunning church square, Entertainment is provided on the square during the market which runs around the square.

Torrevieja was originally a small fishing village, and therefore the area is still excellent for fishing enthusiasts. There is obviously the opportunity to go sea-fishing, either from one of the marinas (the locals can be seen lined up every day) or there is freshwater fishing available at Torremendo. The village of Torremendo is only located approx 10 minutes away from Torrevieja, and a licence can be obtained for 7 euros from the local bank !!!.

There are also three water-parks located close to Torrevieja - one on the outskirts of town, one in the village of Quesada and a smaller one on the El Chaparrel urbanisation. We can provide more details on these if required.

There are now also several local papers available, including "The Leader", "The Coastrider" and "The Round Town News". These papers give up to date information of happenings in and around the Torrevieja area, along with advertisements and the TV guides for the week !!. These papers are distributed around the bars and restaurants, AND ARE FREE.....

On a different note Torrevieja also have a football team, and are currently in the Tercera 2b division after getting promoted last year. Many ex-pats follow this team, they are known as the "Torrie-Army"!!!. The average gate of this team is over 4000 - this must be seen to be believed. Entrances prices are 10 euros for adults and free for children under 12. A season ticket can be purchased for the princely sum of 80 euros !.
